Add/Modify Elements – features for adding/modifying additional joists, support joists, bridging/nogging elements, etc.

Add Vertical Block

Add Vertical Block – adds additional block using joists into selected frame with predefined settings. 

Distance Lock to

Distance Lock to – an additional vertical block can be inserted with predefined distance from selected joist, roof start/end, or selected external element. 


Distance/Spacing – distance/spacing from selected joist, start/end of roof, or selected external element to the block. 

Custom Join


Read Layout from Database – select configuration from the list. Default Configuration is a sample configuration that comes with the software.

Default path to database with vertical block configurations is:
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Tools 4 Revit\Roof+M2020 (or other verion) Configurations\CustomFramingJoins\VerticalBlock

You can also modify the path to all configurations in Configuration Files‘ Location.


Predefined Layout Name – current configuration name.

All modifications can be saved to the current configuration using Save to Database.

Duplicate – duplicates existing configuration in order to create a new one.

Delete – deletes configuration from the database.

New Item – adds new joist to the block.

Remove Item – removes selected joist from the block.

Move Up – moves selected joist/row up.

Move Down – moves selected joist/row down.

Symbolic Preview – shows symbolic preview of created block and its configuration. You can easily see the position, rotation, rotation position, alignment type, and sample spacing.

It does not show exact joist sizes and spacing between them.

and 2 indicate the sides of intersecting wall. These sides are used for joist positioning.

and E show where Internal (Bottom) and External (Top) sides of roof are.


X-Position – controls joist position along the roof. 

Standard – places the joist without any alignment.  

Inner Side 1 – places the joist along inner side 1 of intersecting wall:

Inner Side 2 – places the joist along inner side 2 of intersecting wall:

Outer Side 2 – place the joist along outer side 2 of intersecting wall:

Side 1 by Center – places the joist along intersecting wall side 1 by Center:

Side 2 by Center – places the joist along intersecting wall side 2 by Center:

Center – places the joist along the center of intersecting wall:

Count – defines the number of identical joists.

Type – selected joist family and type. The list of families and types comes from the current project. Sample families are loaded using Roof+MSettings Load Families function.

Depth by Core – joist size will be adjusted according to the roof layer thickness during roof framing process.

Rotate 90 – rotates selected joist by 90 degrees.

Rotate 180 – rotates selected joist by 180 degrees. This option is important when the joist is not symmetrically shaped. For rectangular joists this option usually is not used.

Spacing – distance between the selected joist and the previous joist.


Position – joist can be positioned along the Center, External, Internal, External Outside, Internal Outside, Center External, Center Internal roof face, Outside Near Connected Wall, Opposite Side of Connected Wall.

Near Connected Wall – option used if the joist must be always near the side where wall connects.

Near Connected Wall+ Depth – option used if the joist must be always near the side where wall connects and the joist depth must be the same as connected wall layer thickness.

Align Type

Align Type – the selected joist can be aligned with the previous joist‘s End or Start.


– writes Yes/No information to FM Module Preassembled instance parameter if additional vertical block joist is/not included into preassembly. Later it can be scheduled and separately displayed in shop drawings.  

Also fills information to these instance parameters of additional joists:

FM Module Type – writes configuration name. 

FM Module Mark – writes roof mark.

Build in Place

Build in Place – writes Yes/No information into the joist instance parameter if it is build-in-place or is prefabricated with whole roof frame. Later this parameter can be used in schedules or view filters.
